LTCF Funds New “Welcome to Lawrence Township” Signs
The Lawrence Township Community Foundation generously donated $5,000 from the Bill Guhl Fund to support the purchase of five “Welcome to Lawrence Township” signs and sign manufacturer, Brittain-Parnell of Hamilton donated a sixth sign.
This project was an outcome from a discussion held at the LTCF’s Community Conversation held in March 2009 at the Lawrenceville School. Community member, Paul Schindel brought forth his concern that there was a lack of identification of borders between Lawrence and its surrounding communities and suggested welcome signs at prime entrance locations. He volunteered his company, Three Bears Communications LLC to design the signs. LTCF Trustee, Karla T. Stein spearheaded the project and worked collaboratively with Paul and a committee of representatives from the township to advance this project. After several designs were submitted to the committee, the final three approved designs were displayed and a contest was held at Community Day in October 2009 to select the slogan for the sign. LTCF Trustee, Robin McGovern collected the votes on the three slogan choices: - Don’t Give up the Ship, Captain James Lawrence,
- Where Nature Smiles for 22 Miles, or
- No slogan on the sign
On Thursday, June 24th at 6:00 p.m. trustees of The Lawrence Township Community Foundation
(LTCF), Paul Schindel and Mayor Mike Powers unveiled the installation of the first new “Welcome To Lawrence Township” sign
located on the Brunswick Circle to an audience of community members, township officials, and representatives from local businesses and non-profits. A few weeks later, the remaining “Welcome to Lawrence Township” signs were placed on Federal City Road, Quakerbridge Road, Princeton Pike, U.S. Route 206 and Carter Road.
The Lawrence Township Community Foundation acknowledges the dedicated and unwavering efforts of Paul Schindel, Three Bears LLC for his generous creative designs and support of this community project. LTCF also acknowledges the collaborative team work of former Mayor Pam Mount, Town Manager, Rich Krawczun, Municipal Engineer & Zoning Officer, Jim Parvesse as well as Director of Public Works, Greg Whitehead for serving on the committee and assisting with the identification of the prime border locations to place the signs, securing permits, pick up and installation of the six signs.
